U.S. Open 2012 Results: Webb Simpson Wins It All

Throughout most of Saturday and nearly all of Sunday, the 2012 U.S. Open was looking like Jim Furyk's Grand Slam event to lose. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened in the fourth and final round on Sunday.

Furyk stayed strong through the difficult first six holes, only bogeying on the sixth hole to fall to even in the tournament, but still stayed atop the leaderboard as other golfers -- including co-leader at the start of the day Graeme McDowell -- faltered all around him. The pressure was too much for Furyk late in the game, as he bogeyed three times on the back nine, including twice in the final three holes to fall to 4-over for the day and into a tie for fourth place at 3-over in the tournament.

Webb Simpson, meanwhile, bogeyed twice in the opening six holes but then reeled off four birdies to go to 2-under on the day and 1-over in the tournament. Simpson then sat in the clubhouse and watched as Furyk and McDowell finished their rounds. When first Furyk and then McDowell missed their birdie shots on the 18th hole, Simpson knew he had secured his first career Grand Slam title.
