It was quite the first day at the 2012 U.S. Open as a few of the names we expected to rise to the top did, while a few others faltered big time on day one. Nevertheless they are all looking up at relatively unknown Michael Thompson, who vaulted himself to a three shot lead with his opening round 66. Now he looks to hang on as guys like Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell, Nick Watney and others try to creep their way atop the leaderboard on Friday.
The pairings will be the same as they were on Thursday, though competitors who teed off in the morning will do so in the afternoon on Friday and vice versa, while those who started on the front nine in round one will begin on the back nine Friday and vice versa.
Tiger Woods will look to keep pace as Buba Watson and Phil Mickelson try to make the cut after their abysmal starts, teeing off at 4:18 p.m. ET off the first tee. Leader Michael Thompson tees off with Steve Marino and Colt Knost at 3:52 p.m. ET off the back nine. Nick Watney, Jordan Spieth and Bill Haas tee of the front side at 10:59 a.m. ET, while Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald tee off the back side at 10:44 a.m. ET.
