The 2012 U.S. Open gets underway on Thursday. The prestigious event takes place at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. The notoriously difficult course should make for a close contest as the best golfers in the world viw for the title at the second of the four annual Grand Slam events.
Before the first grouping of golfers has teed off, three-time U.S. Open champion Tiger Woods is the odds-on favorite to win the tournament. If Woods prevails, he will be tied for the all-time record for most career U.S. Open titles. Meanwhile, last year's winner Rory McIlroy is attempting to become just the fourth golfer to win the title in consecutive years.
