2012 French Open Results: Maria Sharapova Advances Following Dominating Performance

The 2012 French Open is underway and we've had quite a few superb matches thus far. There have been a few big upsets on the women's side of the tournament, including one of Venus Williams. As for No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova, she advanced in convincing fashion winning both of her sets 6-1 over Ayumi Morita.

Top-seed Victoria Azarenka defeated Aleksandra Wozniak. No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska was upset by No. 26 Svetiana Kuznetsova in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2.

On the men's side, Novak Djokovic won his match 3-0 over unranked Nicolas Devilder (6-1, 6-2, 6-2). Roger Federer, No. 3 in the event, won his match against Nicolas Mahut in four sets. Five-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga made quick work of Fabio Fognini in three sets.

The only real upset of the day was No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka defeating Gilles Simon in five sets. Wawrinka trailed two sets to one after three, but he rallied in the two final sets in a convincing fashion (6-3, 6-2).

Play will continue once again on Saturday morning from Roland Garros.
