Indy 500 Results And Recap 2012: J.R. Hildebrand Finishes 14th

The 2012 edition of the Indianapolis 500 lived up to all expectations, including a spectacular and frightening finish. Unfortunately, Sausalito native J.R. Hildebrand was unable to bring the checkered flag home to the Bay Area as he went for his first win in the world-famous IndyCar event.

Takuma Sato was in the lead heading into the final lap, but just after the white flag came out, Sato spun out and wrecked as Dario Franchitti went to pass. Franchitti picked up the win, while Sato finished in 17th place. As SB Nation's Jeff Gluck reports, Sato claims that Franchitti crowded him, but Franchetti sees things a bit differently.

After the win, Franchitti took a moment to pay homage to the late Dan Wheldon, who won last year's Indy 500 and died in a crash in October.
