The Players Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Nick Watney Shoots One-Under, Tiger Woods Flirts With Missing Cut

Nick Watney is probably the best Bay Area performer out there, as he's six strokes off the lead after the first round of the 2012 PGA Championship. Watney shot a 71 to stay at one-under par, shooting four birdies in the first 11 holes on the first, fourth, ninth and eleventh to go up to three-under, then struggled down the stretch with bogeys on 13 and 18 to fall back. Watney still is doing fairly well, as the Sacramento-born golfer remains in contention after a good under-par round and will have to make his move in the second or third round to get into contention.

Tiger Woods hasn't done quite as well, shooting a 74. Woods has five bogeys and three birdies to his name and will have an upward hill to climb to even be able to play the weekend at Ponte Vedra Beach. Ricky Barnes is at two over as well, as is Spencer Levin and Kevin Chappell.
