SI's Peter King Breaks Down 49ers GM Trent Baalke's Last Two Days Of NFL Draft

In Peter King of Sports Illustrated's Monday Morning Quarterback, he broke down what turned into quite a couple of days for San Francisco 49ers GM Trent Baalke.

It all centered around what started as the 29th pick of the third round, 92nd pick overall. Baalke had his eyes on Wake Forest offensive guard Joe Looney. As Looney waited to be selected, this is what transpired.

- traded the 92nd pick to the Indianapolis Colts for the 97th pick overall and the Colts' fifth-round pick in 2013.

- traded the 97th pick overall to the Miami Dolphins for the 103rd and 196th overall picks plus a sixth-round pick in 2013.

- traded the 103rd pick overall to the Carolina Panthers for the 180th overall pick and a third-round pick in 2013.

- traded the 125th and 196th overall picks to the Detroit Lions to moved up eight spots to no. 117 to grab Looney.

The Niners ended up getting their guy Looney, picked up Michigan State free safety Trenton Robinson with the 180th pick as well as the Panthers' third, Colts' fifth and the Dolphins' sixth in 2013. The Niners now have 13 projected picks heading into next year's draft, which is tops in the league.

This is why good GMs are so precious in the NFL.

You can breathe now.
