Big Sur Marathon 2012 Preview: Event History And Information

The BIg Sur Marathon takes place on Sunday, April 29. The annual race from Big Sur to Carmel has been run since 1986.

The 2012 Big Sur International Marathon will take place on Sunday, April 29 in Big Sur. The annual marathon along the gorgeous California central coast has been around since 1986 and attracts competitors from all over the world. It's an amazing chance to see some of the most beautiful coastline in the world and experience one of the most impressive feats of endurance in sports.

The 21-mile race from Big Sur to Carmel is a non-profit enterprise, with proceeds going to local charities. The run along Highway One will have awards for the top five finishes by time for both male and female runners, as well as the top three finishes by over-40 male and female runners.

There will also be awards in the following divisions:

- Monterey County Runner
- Clydesdale (male over 195 lbs.), and Bonnydale (female over 150 lbs.),
- Active Military
- Mozartic (trained in an area that has an annual snowfall of 24 inches or more).
