NASCAR At Kansas Speedway 2012 Results: Denny Hamlin Wins, A.J. Allmendinger Drops 4 Spots In Standings

A.J. Allmendinger gained the pole position for just the second time in his career prior to Sunday's race at Kansas Speedway. Unfortunately, the STP 400 was not kind to the Bay Area native, as Allmendinger experienced engine problems in the race after leading for the first 44 laps and finished in 32nd place.

As a result of his poor finish, Allmendinger drops four places in the 2012 Sprint Cup Series standings and is now in 23rd place overall. Fellow Bay Area native Jeff Gordon finished the race in 21st place and also dropped one spot in the standings, to No. 18.

The race was won by Denny Hamlin, who moves into fifth place with his second victory of the year. Martin Truex. Jr. placed second and led for the most laps. Truex now jumps from fourth place to second place in the standings, 15 points behind overall leader Greg Biffle, who placed fifth.
