Ralph Barbieri was let go by KNBR earlier today, reports Gerry Spratt of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Longtime KNBR personality Ralph Barbieri has been let go, station manager Lee Hammer told Chronicle Sports Editor Al Saracevic on Wednesday.
Hammer would only say Barbieri “is no longer with the station. It was a management decision.”
Barbieri was best known for being the co-host of The Razor and Mr. T on KNBR since 1996, where he teamed up with Tom Tolbert to become a fixture on Bay Area radio for the past 16 years. The show has been the highest-rated Bay Area show among adult males for the past decade. Tolbert will be the lone host today and it's unknown if he'll continue to be hosting solo for the near future.
Barbieri was in the midst of contract negotiations as his deal with the station was up soon, which probably could have been the genesis for both sides parting ways. It's unlikely to do with his recent announcement that he had Parkinson's disease, which KNBR seemed to state in the initial negotiations wasn't all that big a deal to the radio station.
