The 2012 WAC Tournament begins down in Las Vegas Thursday as these eight teams duke it out for a possible berth to the 2012 NCAA basketball tournament. The University of Nevada enjoys the top seed in the bracket, but will have to fight through some tough competition to make it to the Big Dance.
No. 3 seeded Idaho and No. 6 Hawaii will kick the tournament off at noon with the first game of the tournament, followed by an intriguing matchup of the No. 7 seeded Fresno State Bulldogs (13-19, 3-11 WAC) taking on the No. 2 New Mexico State Aggies (23-9, 10-4 WAC). Both teams are highlighted with a superb scorer as Fresno's Kevin Olekaibe led the WAC in total points (575) and second in ppg (18.0), while NMSU's Wendell McKines led the conference in both scoring and rebounding (18.5 ppg/10.8 rpg). New Mexico clipped the Bulldogs in both of the regular season meetings, now Fresno State looks to return the favor when in really counts.
The No. 1 seeded Nevada Wolf Pack then take on the No. 8 San Jose State Trojans in the third game of the evening, followed by the matchup of No. 4 Utah State taking on No. 5 Louisiana Tech to wrap up the first round action.
