NASCAR Las Vegas Results 2012: Jeff Gordon Comes In 12th, Tony Stewart Takes Checkered Flag

Bay Area NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and A.J. Allmendinger headed into Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400 looking to make some noise. The third race of the 2012 Sprint Cup season took place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Gordon had another solid performance, finishing in 12th place, while Allmendinger had a poor follow-up to last week's 18th place, coming in 37th. Allmendinger is now in 30th place overall in the Sprint Cup standings. Gordon is 17th overall with 75 points. The new points leader is Greg Biffle, who took third place for the third consecutive week. He now has 125 points, while Kevin Harvick is second with 115.

Tony Stewart ended up taking the checkered flag in the race, while Jimmie Johnson came in second. Johnson's fourth place finish last week and second place finish on Sunday are doing a good job of erasing his performance in the Daytona 500 to open the season, when he wrecked, finished 42nd and was penalized 25 points for rules infractions.
