Santa Clara Vs. San Diego: Evan Roquemore, Denzel Johnson Come Up Big, But Not Enough For Broncos

The Santa Clara Broncos WCC conference play continues to circle the drain as the Broncos dropped to 0-10 Saturday afternoon in a 70-65 loss to the San Diego Toreros. USD improved to 4-7 in conference play while Santa Clara could drop to three losses back of Pepperdine by the end of the evening.

Santa Clara got another pair of strong performances from sophomore Evan Roquemore and freshman Denzel Johnson, but it was not enough to overcome a strong performance from USF. Roquemore scored 21 points and Johnson continued his strong surge the last two weeks with a 20-point performance. Since Kevin Foster first started sitting while dealing with the University discipline process, Johnson has taken full advantage of his opportunity.

San Diego was led by leading scorer Johnny Dee who scored 19 points. USD shot 38.8 % from the field and a robust 50% from beyond the three point line. The Toreros took early 11-2 and 20-6 leads and held off late Santa Clara runs to secure the victory.

The Broncos road does not get any easier in the coming week. This week is a road rivalry week for Santa Clara as they travel to War Memorial Gym to face the San Francisco Dons and then follow that up with a trip to the East Bay to face the Saint Mary's Gaels. Follow that up with home games against Gonzaga and BYU and the Broncos could be staring at an 0-14 hole over the next two weeks.
