Santa Clara Vs. Portland: Broncos Fall Again, Lose To Pilots 84-78

The Santa Clara Broncos fell to the Portland Pilots 84-78 Thursday night despite a terrific effort at the Leavey Center on Thursday night.

Santa Clara was led by Denzel Johnson ‘s 18 points,, Niyi Harrison’s 16 points and seven rebounds, and Ray Cowels III and Brandon Clark’s 2 and 11, respectively. Evan Roquemore even had eight assists for the Broncos.

The Broncos shot a decent 43.3 percent from the field, ncluding 35.0 percent beyond the arc, though it would evenutally prove not enough.

Portland’s was Ryan Nicholas’s led all scorers with19 points and eight rebounds. Tim Douglas added 16 off the bench while Thomas Van Der Mars added 11 points and nine rebounds. Portland shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from downtown. (4 of 11).

Santa Clara falls to 8-14 and 0-9 in WCC play while Portland moves to 6-17 and 3-7 in WCC action.The Broncos will be back this Saturday to take on the University of San Diego Torreros. Tip is scheduled for 4 pm and can be seen on Comcast Bay Area.
