The 2012 Budweiser Shootout had four significant crashes throughout the race on Saturday night. The last crash was the most terrifying, as Jeff Gordon was involved in a multiple-car crash with just two laps remaining in the pre-season race at the Daytona International Speedway. Gordon was in third place when Kyle Busch spun out, sending Gordon sideways before running into the wall, sliding for a long ways on its side and roof before rolling and coming to a rest upside-down. It was the worst crash of Gordon's career, but Busch was able to keep his car from being destroyed and stayed in the race.
The emergency crew responded as the caution flag came out, but Gordon immediately radioed his pit crew to let them know he was all right. Gordon was removed from the car and able to walk away from the crash. He is not believed to have been injured in the crash.
Kyle Busch managed to pick up the win down the stretch as he passed Tony Stewart right at the finish line for the closest finish in the history of the Budweiser Shootout exhibition race. A.J. Allmendinger finished the race in 12th place.
Gordon is scheduled to be right back out on the track at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, as he races in the Daytona 500 Qualifier for next week's Daytona 500 race that will kick off the 2012 Sprint Cup season.
