Jeremy Lin At All-Star Weekend: NBA Wants Linsanity In Haier Shooting Stars Contest

New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin is apparently going to get a chance to showcase his talents at All-Star Weekend. Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be as one of the participants in the stupidest contest the weekend has to offer--the Haier Shooting Stars Contest. The NBA wants him there participating in that event.

If you're unfamiliar with the format, it involves an NBA player, an NBA legend, and a WNBA player taking shots all over the basketball court, culminating with each team trying to nail a halfcourt fling. While the contest might be somewhat interesting to viewers, it's at best a morbid curiosity, and a truly clumsy way to market the NBA's hottest star on its biggest weekend of the regular season.

Perhaps they should think a little bit longer about trying to get Lin in the Rookies vs. Sophomores game or even the Skills contest, because unless Lin nails his 50 footers perfectly, this doesn't sound so exciting.
