Yoenis Cespedes Signs With Oakland Athletics For Four Years, $36 Million, According To Report

The Cuban center fielder is arguably the best all-around player to come out of Cuba in a generation.

According to a tweet from Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown, Yoenis Cespedes has agreed to terms with the Oakland A's. And according to a tweet from the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser, the deal is for four years, $36 million.

The Miami Marlins were seen by many as the frontrunner to land the Cuban slugger but lost out to the A's when it came down to decision time. Cespedes had mentioned he'd love to play in Miami and the deal the Marlins offered was for six years, $40 million, according to reports.

But the shorter contract with more annual salary turned out to be more attractive to Cespedes than the deal the Marlins had on the table. The Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Phillies were all mentioned as possible suitors and/or destinations for Cespedes this offseason.
