Brandon McCarthy injury: Athletics pitcher to begin throwing in December

After suffering an epidural hemorrhage, Brandon McCarthy will begin throwing again in December.

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE

Recovering from surgery to repair an epidural hemorrhage after he was hit in the head by a batted ball in early September, Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy is set to return to throwing in December.

According to Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan and USA Today, the Athletics starter should be able to resume throwing after beginning normal baseball activities earlier in November. McCarthy was injured in the fourth inning of a game against the Los Angeles Angels, when Angels shortstop Erick Aybar lined a pitch back up the middle. The batted ball hit McCarthy in the head, and McCarthy went to the ground for some time, but was able to walk off the field under his own power. A CAT scan later revealed the hemorrhage.

With a return to throwing activities in December, McCarthy will be able to have a normal offseason schedule in preparation for the 2013 season, according to the USA Today report.
