Stanford Cardinal senior linebacker Chase Thomas has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive performance against the California Golden Bears in the Cardinal's 21-3 victory in the Big Game on Saturday.
Thomas led the way for a stingy Cardinal defense that held the Golden Bears to just three yards of rushing on 28 attempts -- which averages out to just 0.1 yards per carry. It's the fewest rushing yards allowed by Stanford since 2003, when they held the Brigham Young Cougars to negative five yards of rushing. Thomas led the way with four tackles for a loss, one sack for a seven yard loss and forced and recovered a fumble.
The entire Stanford defense dominated in the Big Game, recording 11 tackles for a loss and four sacks. The three points allowed represents the lowest in a Big Game since 1998.
Stanford continues Pac-12 play against the Washington State Cougars in Stanford this weekend, while Cal travels to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Utes.
