The San Francisco Dons travel to the South Bay to face the Santa Clara Broncos in a key WCC matchup for both teams. It has been a slightly disappointing start to WCC play for USF as they sit at 3-5 and in fifth place. Road losses to Gonzaga, BYU and Saint Mary's were all expected, but conference season-opening losses to Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount (with LMU coming at home) have left the Dons scrambling to get back into the conference race. They sit 2.5 games back of LMU for fourth place.
If the USF conference schedule has been a disappointment, Santa Clara's conference play has been a disaster. The Broncos are 0-6 in conference place and suspended leading scorer Kevin Foster due to an unknown rules violation last weekend. Foster is being withheld from competition pending the outcome of the Santa Clara student judicial process. The team was struggling with Foster playing, so losing him could be a tough blow.
The Dons are led by Angelo Caloiaro who leads the team with 14.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Cody Doolin leads the team with 3.1 assists per game while four separate players average at least one steal per game. The Broncos will send out Evan Roquemore as their leading scorer with 14.2 points per game and 5.2 assists per game. Niyi Harrison and Yannick Atanga lead the team inside with a combined twelve rebounds per game.
