49ers Injury Report: Reggie Smith Tears Meniscus, Out For Weeks

Turns out safety Reggie Smith wasn't kidding when he gave that tweet suggesting injury. The good news is it won't be serious enough to keep him out for an extended period of time. The bad news is that he could be out for the majority of training camp, the preseason, maybe even the first week or two of the regular season, so the defensive back Ferris wheel continues to circulate for the Niners.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee found out through a source that Smith tore a meniscus in one of his knees, will be out a couple of weeks, but the injury won't be long-term. It does explain why the 49ers were quick to re-sign Dashon Goldson on a one-year deal when it looked like he was ready to leave town. Now it looks like the Niners will have actually quite a bit of depth in the secondary when everyone is back to full health.
