The San Francisco 49ers are looking for any and all options to solidify their depth chart at the tight end position and the team has signed rookie Chris Blohm. The tight end played for seasons at Yale, catching 26 passes for 225 yards.
The story was reported by Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee:
The team in close to signing former Yale tight end Chris Blohm. The former Eli must first must pass his physical. The 49ers are looking for a blocking-oriented tight end after losing Nate Byham for the season with a torn ACL. Blohm (6-4, 240) worked out for the 49ers prior to the draft and caught the attention of scouts by bench pressing 225 pounds 30 times.
Blohm will compete with Konrad Reuland and Colin Cloherty for the third tight end spot since a season-ending injury brought down incumbent Nate Byham. The tight end will likely report to camp in a day or two assuming he passes his physical.
