Aaron Gordon: Arizona, Washington, New Mexico, Kansas Standing Out

Aaron Gordon is one heck of a phenomenal talent, and you'll probably be hearing his name a lot the next two years if you're a follower of high school hoops. The 6'7" 2013 power forward from Archbishop Mitty in San Jose is already drawing massive raves, and his dunks have become the stuff of legends.

At the moment though, his eyes are casting wider than the Bay Area. Although he says the entire West Coast is after him, Gordon can point out some early favorites to Matt Prehem of 247Sports after the Global Games. Four schools are already starting to make their mark on him--the Arizona Wildcats, the New Mexico Lobos, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Washington Huskies. Not a good sign for Cal basketball fans looking for a big star to land in their backyard.

Mike Montgomery has had his fair share of troubles trying to get top Bay Area recruits to play basketball for the California Golden Bears--in his four years at Cal perhaps the best local recruit he's landed has been Brandon Smith. He might have to start bracing for some failures in 2013 too. Battles to Washington and Arizona are bad enough. But when you're losing the edge to New Mexico, you might have to reconsider your recruiting strategy just a tad.
