Giants vs. Phillies, MLB Scores: Timmy Breaks Phils Streak With 3-1 Victory

After three straight losses the fans at AT&T Park were thirsty for a taste of victory against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday. Luckily they had their ace Tim Lincecum on the mound, and behind some clutch situational hitting from the Giants offense the G-Men stopped Philly’s nine game win streak dead in it’s tracks by the score of 3-1.

Lincecum (W 10-9) was brilliant in his seven and 2/3 innings of work, spraying seven hits with five punch outs, along with only one earned run, a Chase Utley RBI single in the first. Timmy would come out of the game after Utley lost the grip of his bat in the eigth, inadvertently striking Lincecum in the leg. Chase showed some sportsmanship by checking on him before retaking the batter’s box; a nice gesture after the skirmish on Friday.

Jeff Keppinger had one of his best days as a Giant, going 4-4 with an RBI, while Chris Stewart went 2-4 with an RBI single of his own. Orlando Cabrera had a sacrifice fly in the fourth, finishing the day 1-4, while Pablo Sandoval stayed hot, going 2-4 with a double. Carlos Beltran went 1-4, but unfortunately left the game in the eighth after feeling a sharp pain in his wrist. X-rays were said to be negative and is expected to be in the lineup Monday.

Roy Oswalt’s (L 4-7) triumphant return didn’t go how he would have hoped, allowing 12 hits in six innings of work, along with all three of the Giants runs to his credit. Oswalt threw 93 pitches in his first start since being sidelined with a bulging disc in his lower back towards the end of June.

Brian Wilson made a save appearance (finally), allowing one hit in his seven-pitch ninth inning. It was the bearded savior’s 34th save of the season.

With the win the Giants move to 63-52 on the year, Full box score can be found here.

The Giants will host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three game set starting Monday, with Ryan Vogelsong (9-1 2.19 ERA) taking the mound for San Francisco and Charlie Morton (8-6 3.80 ERA) for Pittsburgh. First pitch is set for 7:15 pm PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
