Giants vs. Phillies, MLB Schedule Preview: Giants Turn To Lincecum To Avoid Series Sweep

It's been a rough couple of days at the ballpark for the San Francisco Giants, losers of their last three against their newest rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. Now the team turns to ace Tim Lincecum to avoid being swept on the shores of McCovey Cove on Sunday.

Lincecum (9-9) is coming off a tough loss against the Diamondbacks earlier this week after allowing only two earned runs off three hits in seven innings of work in an eventual 6-1 Arizona win. Timmy squared off with the Phils last week out in Philadelphia, earning the win with six scoreless innings of work; all while being two days removed from a terrible bout of food poisoning that caused him to miss his original start in the rotation.

Philadelphia will welcome Roy Oswalt (4-6) back into their rotation on Sunday after missing the last month and a half with a bulging disc in his lower back. Oswalt's last appearance was against the Cardinals at the end of June, lasting only two innings after being yanked along with five hits and four earned runs. Oswalt will have the chance to push Philly's winning streak to 10 games this afternoon, who are playing better that just about anyone is baseball right now. The Phillies are batting .293 with 38 extra-base hits, as well as a 2.39 ERA while outscoring their opponents 53-24 over the course of this streak.

First pitch is set for 1:05 pm PT this afternoon with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
