Giants vs. Phillies, MLB Scores: Cliff Lee Shines as Phils Top Giants 3-0

If Cliff Lee was looking for revenge against the San Francisco Giants, he certainly got it tonight.

AT&T Park was filled with anticipation for Lee's return to the Bay with the Philadelphia Phillies, looking for some redemption of their own after losing their series with the Giants in Philly last week. But Lee was too much for the G-Men, getting blanked by the All-Star; and backed by back-to-back jacks off Madison Bumgarner the Phils took game one by a score of 3-0.

Bumgarner (L 6-11) was pretty sharp in his eight innings of work, allowing only six hits while fanning nine Phillies. Unfortunately two of those hits were back-to-back solo homers from the newly acquired Hunter Pence and John Mayberry Jr. Santiago Casilla would allow another RBI in the ninth, pushing the score to the eventual 3-0.

As for Lee (W 11-7), his complete game shutout came with eight strikeouts and seven hits, without walking a single Giant. Carlos Beltran went 1-4 with a double, the only extra base hit for the Black and Orange this evening. Lee also threw 29 first pitch strikes to the 33 batters he faced. So suffice it to say, he was on point.

With the loss the Giants move to 62-50 on the year. Full box score can be found here.

The Giants will welcome Jonathan Sanchez (4-5 3.81 ERA) back into the rotation on Orange Friday to face the Phillies Vance Worley (7-1 2.33 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:15 with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
