Raiders Need To Get Under Cap, Stanford Routt Open To Restructuring

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders are $15.25 million over the cap as of Thursday morning. They have a very limited amount of time to get back under the cap and, you know, be allowed to field a team for the 2011 NFL season. At least one member of the Silver & Black is open to restructuring his contract to help the team get back in the clear as Stanford Routt had this to say:

Oh yeah, I am down to do anything to help the team.

Routt received a big contract extension before the lockout, getting $31.5 million over three years, with $10 million of that due to him in 2011. It's not that he'd necessarily take less money to be with the team, but they could work out ways to give him less money now and more money later, and see what they can do in the way of escalators that may or may not count against the cap. It's a good thing to see, as Routt believes in the team, even without Nnamdi Asomugha on board. He'll be counted on to do a lot, and this gesture off the field is a good start.

As Paul Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area notes, Richard Seymour could be another candidate for restructuring, as he got his deal done before the lockout as well. Seymour is set to make $30 million over two years.
