Andres Torres Begins Rehab Assignment With Fresno Grizzlies

The Giants are a team who just haven't been able to get healthy over the last few weeks. Fortunately for Bruce Bochy and his club, Andres Torres is nearing a return and will begin his rehab assignment tonight with the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies.

Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly tweeted the information earlier today:

Andres Torres is beginning a rehab assignment tonight for Triple-A Fresno, the Giants announced.

All reports indicate the outfielder is recovering well after suffering a severe leg contusion and he should return to San Francisco as soon as his disabled list stint is complete. His presence on the roster will give Bochy even more flexibility on a nightly basis when constructing his lineup.

Torres has struggled at the plate this season -- .228/.314/.343, 86 wRC+ -- though he is a solid defender and able to cover a lot of ground in the spacious AT&T Park outfield. A hero from last season's World Series team, it will be interesting if he is able to provide a spark to a team that rode a spark all the way to a championship in 2010.
