Giants vs. Braves Preview: Jair Jurrjens Returns From DL to Face Matt Cain

Between the San Francisco Giants injuries, and back-to-back walk off losses, the morale in the clubhouse may be a bit lower than usual. Nevertheless, the show must go on, the the Black and Orange have to roll with what they got; which luckily means All-Star Matt Cain on the mound tonight. Cain and the Giants will have their hands full though, as Braves ace Jair Jurrjens makes his return from the DL this evening at Turner Field.

Before the All-Star break, Jurrjens was 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA. In four second-half starts, however, Jurrjens has been quite the opposite, going 0-1 with a 6.26 ERA, eventually placed on the DL with a right knee strain.  He will be looking to get back to form and in a hurry against the Giants tonight.

As for Cain (9-9 3.00 ERA) he has been stellar in his last few outings, but thanks to the Giants slumping lumber he hasn't had much to show for it. He has posted a 3.03 ERA and .236 average against in his last five outings, but astonishingly is 1-4. Hopefully he can get some help tonight.

Despite homering in a season-high seven straight games now, the Giants are hitting only .154 with runners in scoring position their last 25 games, and just .113 in their last 12.

First pitch is set for 4:00 pm PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
