Oakland Raider Training Camp 2011: Oakland Raiders Are Five Million Under the Cap

Through the willing restructuring of some large contracts and a few grains of Mr. Davis’ Salary Cap Dust, the Oakland Raiders, who many in the media criticized for their cap management, find themselves looking at a few key injuries and a little more than five million dollars left to fill in the gaps.

The team put some of that to work by signing two safeties to compete for Hiram Eugene’s spot on Special Teams and in the defensive Backfield.

The quality of players signed says something about the new culture in Oakland that has been solidified by Jason Campbell, Hue Jackson, Richard Seymour and Rolando McClain.

With players wanting to come to Oakland and a few million to spend, I would look for the team to sign “their” guys when they become available after August 30th (First round of Cuts) or even all the way up until the last day to sign free agents.
