Sergio Romo Update: Dan Runzler Recalled from Triple-A, Romo Hits DL

Well folks, it’s officially official; Sergio Romo is heading to the disabled list.

The San Francisco Giants’ right-handed relief specialist has some discomfort and inflammation in the back of his right elbow (throwing elbow) causing him to miss the next few weeks, with the earliest he could return being August 25th.

In a corresponding roster move the Giants have recalled reliever Dan Runzler from Triple-A Fresno to take Romo’s spot in the bullpen. Runzler began the year with the Black and Orange after an impressive Spring, pitching 19 2/3 innings in 18 appearances before being sent back to the minors. Runzler struck out 18 batters along the way, but had a 6.41 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with his time with San Francisco earlier this year.

Runzler had a 2-3 record and 4.17 ERA with Fresno this season, and was the 2010 Minor League Releif Pitcher of the Year.
