49ers Sign TE Nate Lawrie to One-Year Deal

With the injury to Nate Byham the The San Francisco 49ers were looking for some help at the tight end position, and got it on Sunday as the team announced they have signed TE Nate Lawrie to a one-year deal.

The 6'6", 255 Lawrie is a Indianapolis, IN native, playing his college ball at Yale University where he set the school record for receptions by a tight end in a single-season with 72 in his senior year. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing for them for one year before heading to the Saints ('05-06), Bengals ('07-08), Ravens (2008), and Eagles (2010). He has played in a total 26 NFL games in his career with five starts, racking up four receptions for 43 yards along the way.

Lawrie also spent a couple of seasons in the UFL, seeing time with the California Redwoods in 2009 and the Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2010, with 26 receptions for 252 yards and one touchdown in his time in the United Football League.
