Giants vs. Reds, Series Preview: Giants Head to Cincy To Face Sputtering Reds

As the San Francisco Giants head to Cincinnati to take on the Reds, these two talented teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum right now. The Giants are coming off a series win in Philadelphia, something the Black and Orange haven't done since 2004, while the Reds are fresh off a four game sweep at home against the New York Mets, a feat the Mets had never accomplished in their history. But neither team is expecting anything less that a battle as both teams fight for their playoff lives at the Great American Ballpark.

The Reds have won only five of their last 13 games while the Giants have only lost four of their last 13. Cincy hasn't a lot of trouble scoring, but they have had troubles holding on to leads. The Reds will send out Dontrelle Willis, Mike Leake and Johnny Cueto for this three game series, while the Giants will use Ryan Vogelsong, Madison Bumgarner, and the dreaded TBA as Barry Zito's baseball existence begins to dwindle away.

In other news the Giants have allowed infielder Miguel Tejada to resume baseball activities after dealing with an oblique strain, and is shooting for an August 4 return date from the DL. Infielder Bill Hall was taken of the DL and designated for assignment, Emmanuel Burriss will join him in Fresno, Brandon Belt will be sticking around, while the team hasn't released Pat Burrell as he is ineligible being on the DL, and may keep him anyway.
