Manchester City Brings Talent, Success to AT&T Park for World Football Chalenge

For years the English Premier League's Manchester City has sat in the shadows of their arch rival Manchester United as the second best team from Manchester. Playing in the same region as a power house like United can never be easy, but with some talented additions to their squad Man City proved their salt during their 2010-2011 season, finishing third in the English Premier League table while hoisting the 2011 FA Cup, their first trophy win in 35 years.

The Blues trailed only eventual EPL winners Manchester United and runners-up Chelsea in the 2011 season, sporting a 21-8-9 record with a +27 goal differential and 71 points. Striker Carlos Tevez lead the team and the EPL in scoring during the 2010-11 campaign with 20 goals, leading him to be named the Golden Boot Award winner in the English Premier League. Man City also got it done tending goal as well as keeper Joe Hart was named the Golden Glove award winner, given to the keeper with the most clean sheets with 18 on the year. The clubs manager, Roberto Mancini, was also named Manager of the month in December and played a large role in the successes of the Blues this season.

Tevez also was awarded the 'goal of the year' for his 65th minute goal against Stoke City in the FA cup final at Wembley Stadium, while Hart was awarded the performance of the season for his clean sheet against the Tottenham Hot Spurs in August of 2010.

Needless the say, Man City will be bringing lots of talent to the shores of McCovey Cove when they play Mexico's Club América July 16th at AT&T Park. Should prove to be a good test for both teams and a great exhibition for Bay Area soccer fans.
