College Softball World Series Results: ASU 14, Florida 4

The Arizona St. Sun Devils beat up the Florida Gators in Game 1 of the 2011 College Softball World Series finals. ASU's biggest bats in the 3-4-5 holes (Kaylyn Castillo, Annie Lockwood, Krista Donnenwirth) pounded the ball, going 7 for 10 combined from the plate, knocking in ten of the 14 runs, including two home runs.

It was a six run second inning that broke open the proceedings. After Hannah Rogers got the first two outs, ASU loaded the bases with two walks (one intentional, one not). Castillo singled in two runners, Lockwood singled in another, and then Donnenwirth cleared up the remaining bases. Just like that it was 7-0, and Florida was looking ahead to brighter days (perhaps later in time).

Dallas Escobedo had a relatively stress-free outing for ASU, although she did throw 158 pitches.

Game 2 is Tuesday night at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com. For more on Florida softball, go to Alligator Army (our UF SB Nation site); for more on ASU softball, check out House of Sparky.
