NCAA Baseball Regional 2011 Scores: Stanford Defeats Cal State Fullerton 1-0

The Stanford Cardinal escaped with a 1-0 victory over the top-seeded Cal State Fullerton Titans to advance to the finals of the Fullerton regional. With the victory the Cardinal need one more win to advance to the super regional where they would face the winner of the Chapel Hill regional. Fullerton’s loss means they’ll face Illinois for the right to face Stanford in the final game(s).

The two starting pitchers threw up goose eggs for 5 1/2 innings as neither team could get anything on the scoreboard. However, in the bottom of the sixth Stephen Piscotty homered to give Stanford a 1-0 lead. The Stanford pitchers made the lead hold up. Jordan Pries held the Titans to two hits and Chris Reed closed the game out with 1 1/3 innings in which he allowed one walk and nothing else.

Stanford now awaits the winner of Illinois and Fullerton in the loser’s bracket. By winning on Saturday Stanford only needs to win one more game. Had they lost, Stanford would have had to win three more games to advance to the super regional.
