Earthquakes vs. Galaxy, MLS Preview: Rivalry Renewed at Buck Shaw Stadium

It’s that time again Quakes fans. It’s time for the California Clasico, with the San Jose Earthquakes back home at Buck Shaw Stadium to host the rival LA Galaxy Saturday afternoon.

The Earthquakes finally had their six game unbeaten streak halted in their last match, an unfortunate 1-0 loss against Sporting Kansas City. But San Jose has been hot at home as of late, winners of their last three at Buck Shaw, but are hosting one of the hottest teams in the league in the Galaxy. L.A. currently holds a MLS season-high nine game unbeaten streak of their own after a 3-1 victory against the Colorado Rapids last Saturday.

Despite the fact that these teams are on opposite sides of the Western Conference standings, they always prove to be great match ups between them. San Jose currently has a four game unbeaten streak at home against the Galaxy dating back to August 3, 2008.

Both sides will be without key pieces as Chris Wondolowski and Landon Donovan are with the U.S. National team in Gold Cup play, and David Beckham is questionable for LA with back spasms. In 46 total meetings the Quakes own 15 wins with 60 goals while the Galaxy have 24 wins with 71 goals and seven ties between them.

Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m. with coverage on Fox Soccer Channel.
