Earthquakes vs. Sporting K.C., MLS Preview: Quakes Look To Stay Hot in Kansas City

After San Jose Earthquake striker Steven Lenhart went off for a hat trick last week against D.C. United, the club will be hoping for a similar effort from him Friday night in Kansas City against Sporting K.C. And with the Quakes recent success on the road, Sporting may be catching a team who is starting to fire on all cylinders.

Lenhart’s performance in the Nation’s capital garnered him MLS player of the week honors, and has been a huge factor San Jose’s recent success. Since his return from arthroscopic knee surgery in April the Quakes are 4-1-2, and unbeaten in their last six with 13 goals netted. They also moved up to sixth in the Western Conference with 19 points in 13 games.

Sporting hadn’t won since way back in March before their 4-1 drubbing of FC Dallas last weekend. But their long winless drought has cost them in the standings, currently owning only 10 points in 12 matches this season, sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. At least they have their brand new stadium to come back to in Livestrong Sporting Park.

Kick off is set for 5:30 PT this evening with coverage on FOX Soccer.
