The second day of the super regionals round of the 2011 NCAA baseball tournament wrapped up as the California Golden Bears dismantled the Dallas Baptist Patriots with relative ease in their first game. Cal hit a pair of three run homers to defeat the Patriots 7-0 and put the Bears in a position to advance to the College World Series with a win on Sunday. Cal will face off with Dallas Baptist at 7:00pm pacific on ESPNU. If Cal wins they advance to the College World Series. A Dallas Baptist win forces a third game on Monday.
The afternoon and evening games saw the Vanderbilt Commodores roll to victory with a 9-3 win over Oregon State to advance to the 2011 College World Series. The Beavers simply could not keep up with the Commodores who took an early 2-0 lead and followed that up with five runs in the fifth and sixth inning to put this game away. Vanderbilt joins North Carolina as the first to teams to clinch spots in the 2011 College World Series.
Elsewhere the South Carolina Gamecocks won their opener with Connecticut leaving the Huskies in a must-win situation on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm pacific. In Austin, Texas won their second game 5-1 to force a decisive third game on Sunday at 4:00pm pacific.
