Sunday brings an exciting day of sports as the summer is in full gear. If you're looking for an excuse to stay indoors, we've got enough of a breeze here in the Bay Area that you might be able to justify sticking indoors to enjoy some high level athletic competition today. The Cal Bears are in a position to advance to the 2011 College World Series, the San Francisco Giants will be broadcast on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, and my beloved Oakland A's will try to grab a win against the Chicago White Sox. Oh and there's that little thing called the 2011 NBA Finals which have featured some ESPN Classic-worthy games thus far.
As we are coming to you from the Bay area, all times are pacific.
MLB Baseball: Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox - 11:10am - CSN California
The A's look to split their series with the White Sox and get Bob Melvin to a 2-2 record four games into his time with the team. It's not pretty right now for the A's so any win is a good thing at this point. As an A's fan I think for now you just find yourself rooting for Jemile Weeks to succeed.
MLB Baseball: San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds - 5:05pm - ESPN
The Giants are on prime time once again and will be looking to split with the Cincinnati Reds as they square off on Sunday Night Baseball. Jonathan Sanchez and Edinson Volzquez are both tough starters but will have to work their tails off to get a victory Sunday night
2011 NBA Finals: 5:02pm tip time - ABC
Given how easy it is for people to hate on the Heat, it should be an easy series to pick your team. A small minority will pick the Heat while the majority of folks will be rooting for the Mavericks. Whatever the case, if it follows the rest of the series, we should be in store for a great game.
2011 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Cal vs Dallas Baptist - 7:00pm - ESPNU - live online stream via ESPN3.com
The Bears have a shot to clinch a spot in the 2011 College World Series with a win over the Dallas Baptist Patriots. The Bears should be favored in this game but crazy things can happen in any tournament. The Patriots have shown an ability to score a lot of runs this season so they could be a tough team for Cal to put away.
2011 NCAA Baseball: Rest of the Field 10am-7pm - ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU
While we'll be focusing in on Cal at 7:00pm, Sunday features five other games. Two of the games are guaranteed elimination games in Florida-Mississippi State and Texas-Arizona State. The other three games include one team on the verge of elimination. So we'll get at least two more teams into the eight-team College World Series field, and probably even more than that.
