The Oakland Athletics host the Baltimore Orioles this weekend in the beginning of a twelve game stretch at home and on the road against the American League West. The A's open with three games versus Baltimore and three games versus the Yankees. They follow that with three games at Boston and three games at Baltimore. This tough stretch of games comes on the heels of a 2-7 run that included a six game losing streak, which dropped the A's into last place.
The A's find themselves trying to find some sort of offensive identity outside of being just plain bad. The most "consistent" regular at this point is Coco Crisp who has a robust line of .269/.297/.406. The month of May however has seen David DeJesus start to hit with some level of consistency. In 73 at bats this month he's hit .301/.370/.589 and leads the team with four home runs.
Barring a significant offensive breakthrough, the A's will find themselves once again relying on their steady starting pitching. The starting pitching has done a fairly solid job weathering the injury storm. Dallas Braden went down with a shoulder injury and Tyson Ross filled in and kept the team chugging along. Ross and Brandon McCarthy went down with injuries, bringing Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso to the Show. Outman and Moscoso weren't dominant in their first starts, but they did enough to give the A's a chance to win. It will be interesting to see how they fare as teams get more scouting film on them.
This series will be on CSN California all weekend long. First pitch will be 7:05pm on Friday and Saturday, and 1:05pm on Sunday.
