The 2011 NCAA men’s golf championship tournament gets underway and the California Golden Bears will be playing for a shot at their second golf national championship. The regional round took place this past weekend with Cal advancing out of the Arizona region. The championship tournament will be hosted by Oklahoma State and teams will arrive in Stillwater on Sunday May 29.
The teams will spend Monday practicing, with the schedule of play set to kick off (PDF) on Tuesday. The tournament features 54 holes of stroke play over three days. At the end of three days, the top eight teams will advance to a three-day match-play playoff, culminating in the championship match on Sunday June 5.
The first three days of the stroke-play aspect of the tournament start at 7am central time each day. On Thursday, after the stroke play wraps up, the tournament will conduct their individual awards ceremony. The next day, Friday, the match-play quarterfinals will start at 10:00am with the top seed facing the eighth seed. 45 minutes after that match tees off, we’ll the 4-5 match will begin. 45 minutes later, the 2-7 match will begin. The final match, No. 3 vs. No. 6, will tee off 45 minutes later at 12:15pm.
The semifinals will kickoff at 10:00am on Saturday June 4 with the winner of match one facing the winner of match two. That will be followed 45 minutes later by the tee off of the second semifinal match between the winner match three and the winner of match four. There will be an awards ceremony for semifinalist teams Saturday afternoon.
The tournament will conclude with the championship match, which tees off at noon on Sunday June 4. The tournament will conduct its final awards ceremony following the conclusion of play.
