The 2011 Amgen Tour of California completed Stage 6 on Friday with David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Cervelo claiming victory in the Solvang time trial. Zabriskie entered the day in 25th place, sitting 4:55 back of overall race leader Chris Horner. Although Zabriskie remainsa good deal back of Horner, he picked up some ground, as did some of the top contenders.

The race now reaches the penultimate stage, featuring a fairly brutal climb up Mount Baldy. Second place cyclist Levi Leipheimer gained 37 seconds on Horner and now only trails by 38 seconds. Tejay Van Garderen was the only other serious contender to gain ground on Horner, but he only gained 11 seconds. As the race heads into Stage 7, Horner will look to get back into his groove in the mountains, where he excelled in capturing and retaining the lead in Stages 5 and 6.
