Giants vs. Athletics: Schedule Preview: Giants Looking to Slow Down Trevor Cahill at AT&T Park

When it comes to pitching matchups, it doesn’t get much better than the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants. Both of these teams are stocked with young cannons that have been dominating opposing hitters the last few years, but this year in particular, Trevor Cahill has been outstanding.

Cahill (6-1 1.82 ERA) currently is tied for the lead in all of baseball with six wins, and is fifth in ERA at 1.82. He gave up his first loss in his last start to the Chicago White Sox as they roughed him up for 10 hits in seven innings of work, but they still plated only two runs off of all those hits. Cahill has nasty stuff, and the days he doesn’t, he still manages to pitch an excellent game.

For the Giants they will send out veteran Ryan Vogelsong (3-0 2.36 ERA) who’s feel-good story and excellent results so far this year have quickly made a place for him in the hearts of Giants fans. If it wasn’t for a rain out in Chicago a few days ago, it would have been Lincecum pitching today. But as it is I’m sure Vogelsong can hold his own against anyone he’s up against right now. He has a 21/8 K/BB ratio and the Giants are 4-0 in games that he’s stared.

First pitch is set for 7:15 PT this evening. Coverage can be found all over the Bay Area: CSN California as well as NBC Bay Area on TV and KNBR 680 AM and Sports Radio 95.7 FM on the radio dial.
