Giants vs. Rockies, Series Preview: Giants Look to Extend Lead in NL West at Coors Field

After the San Francisco Giants' rain-shortened series with the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, they're hoping that the wet weather won't be following them to the Mile High City as they play a two game series with the always dangerous Colorado Rockies. The Giants swept the Rocks last weekend at AT&T but now will face them at the hitter's friendly compound of Coors Field for the next two days; luckily they'll have the top of their rotation rolling out to hopefully pad their lead in the NL West.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy is well aware that his club can't take home the NL West crown this year without going through the defending champs, and he feels his team is up to that challenge. From mlb.com:

"When you play the San Francisco Giants, you are going to face a pretty doggone good starting pitcher every single day," Tracy said. "So to sit here and say, 'Oh, yeah, we'll throw seven, eight or nine [runs] out there against that guy,' that's a ludicrous thought process."

The Giants will be sending out Tim Lincecum (3-3 2.11 ERA) and Jonathan Sanchez (3-2 3.68 ERA) during their two game set in Denver, and if they both can get themselves a win the Giants would be a full 3.5 games ahead of Colorado in the NL West. Should be an exciting series over the next few days, hopefully for the Giants it won't turn into a match of home run derby with the likes of Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki
