2011 Amgen Tour of California: Race Cleared for 1:15 PM

Stage One for the Amgen Tour of California is a go.  The race, originally slotted to start at 10:30 am, will officially begin at 1:15 pm. The new route will still take riders from South Lake Tahoe to Northstar, however its distance has been cut in half, now running 50 miles as opposed to 118.

From an Amgen Tour of California Statement:

"We have been in constant communication with all parties involved in the 2011 Amgen Tour of California – from public safety and transportation authorities to teams and all of our partners – to ensure our decision protects the safety of our riders and fans," said Andrew Messick, president of AEG Sports. "We thank everyone for their tireless efforts in bringing this race together, and pledge that we still have a great day of racing ahead of us today."

Tour officials say that the projected finish time of between 3:15 and 4 pm will remain unchanged.
