There's no better way to embark on a road trip in baseball than to do it coming off a sweep of your homestand, unless of course it's a six-game homestand against division rivals, and also unless you happen to take over first place in your division thanks to said sweep. Not to mention the fact that they're taking on the Chicago Cubs, who shouldn't be overlooked, but are struggling either way. Continuing their strong play through these three games going into four games against the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively, will be absolutely key. It's also a time where some of the struggling talent on the team can perhaps get a chance to shine and get some confidence flowing.
That talent mostly is just directed at Madison Bumgarner, who will be taking the mound in game one, against Ryan Dempster. Game two will see Ryan Vogelsong take on Doug Davis, and game three will see the Giants' pitching ace Tim Lincecum throw against Carlos Zambrano.
This past series, the Giants ended up getting both Andres Torres and Mark DeRosa back from injuries, and the former was given our hitter of the series award in our series recap, located in the previous stream. The Cubs are below .500 and currently sit at fourth in their division with a 16-20 record. They haven't had a winning streak of more than two games all season, and are losers in six of their ten games in May thus far.
The games will be played on Friday-Saturday-Sunday.
