Earthquakes vs. Whitecaps: MLS Scores: Chris Wondolowski Scores, Quakes Battle Whitecaps to 1-1 Draw

The San Jose Earthquakes were North of the border to take on the newly added expansion team the Vancouver Whitecaps, both of whom were looking to end their recent winless streaks in MLS play. And despite a terrific back-heel touch that netted Chris Wondolowski’s fourth goal of the season, the Quakes couldn’t get themselves a win, ending the match in a 1-1 draw at Empire Field.

There was a driving rain for the majority of the match, keeping the pitch slippery and difficult to maneuver at times for both squads. Vancouver’s Davide Chiumiento blasted a long range strike the to the bottom left corner in stoppage time, right past San Jose’s keeper Jon Busch to even the match at 1 apiece. It was a heartbreaking outcome as the Quakes seemed to be the hungrier team throughout the match, but a momentary lapse of concentration by the defense lead them to a draw instead of a win.

With the draw the Quakes are now winless in their last 6 MLS matches with 3 ties and 3 losses over that span. They currently are 1-4-3 on the season with -4 goal differential, last place in the Western Conference and 11 points behind the leading L.A. Galaxy.
