Earthquakes vs. Chivas USA, MLS Scores: Chivas Score Late to Keep Quakes Winless at Home

The San Jose Earthquakes looked like they were in the drivers seat after an early Chris Wondolowski goal this afternoon, but Chivas USA had a different plan. They racked up a goal before the half and another before the final whistle to take down the Quakes by a score of 2-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Wondolowski scored his third goal of the season in the 16th minute, a strike from right in front of the goal. San Jose seemed to take control of the game from there, but a rip from Heath Pierce in the 45th minute gave Chivas new life heading into the half. Both teams played evenly through the second half until substitute Mariano Trujillo, assisted by Justin Braun, blasted one past Jon Busch in the 85th minute to score the final and defining goal for Chivas USA. The only booking for the match was a Sam Cronin yellow card for San Jose in the 21st minute. The Quakes took 5 less shots than Chivas USA, as well as 4 more fouls and 4 less corners.

With the crushing loss the Quakes remain winless at home for the 2011 season thus far, and remain in seventh place in the Western Conference.

Full match stats can be found here.

The Quakes will head to Philadelphia next Saturday to take on the Union at PPL Park, with kickoff set for 1:00 PT.
