Quakes vs. Chivas USA, MLS Schedule Preview: Quakes Looking for First Home Win Against Chivas USA

The San Jose Earthquakes haven’t had the impressive start to their 2011 campaign that they would have liked, but will be looking for their first home win of the year against Chivas USA this afternoon. The Quakes are coming off of a lopsided 3-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls last week as the Rojiblancos finished in a 0-0 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Both teams desperately need a win, and should prove to be an outstanding match at Buck Shaw Stadium this afternoon.

The 2010 Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski will be looking to get back to his goal scoring frenzy he had to begin the season after ending the streak in New York last weekend. He has 2 goals this season thus far, but had a hat trick against Chivas USA in their last meeting October 20 of last year, and will hopefully do something similar this afternoon.

Midfielders Andre Luiz and Joey Gjertsen are out with a knee and groin injury respectfully for San Jose, while Chivas forward Tristen Bowen will sit with an ankle sprain and midfielder Blair Gavin will sit with a pulled hamstring. The Quakes have gotten 5 points from their 5 games so far this season and currently sit in seventh place in the Western Conference, while Chivas USA has 3 points and is in ninth place in the West.

Kickoff is set for 1:00 PT and can be seen on CSN California, Telefutura and MLS Match Day (for paid subscribers). You can also catch the action on KZSF 1370.
